Joey Johnson, CPP
I am in my 10th year of serious professional photography…
When I say serious, that involves making money and educating myself
to be a better photographer. I shoot seniors, weddings, families,
landscapes and wildlife… But my specialty is sports photography. I
have played or been a part of sports my entire life, coaching for
nine years before stepping into a full-time teaching role of the
Photography program at Tulsa Tech in January, 2010. I was brought
on board to assist Clay Allen who has been a great mentor and
motivator to make me a better photographer.
I passed my certification as a professional photographer in sports,
in the spring of 2010. I am a PPOK member for the past few years
and a PPA member the past two years. I entered my first competition
in the Fall of 2010 donning my first loan print from that
competition.
I am officially
addicted to competition now. I did my first freelance assignment
for the Tulsa World in February 2005 of an OSU baseball game. After
that freelancing has been a part of my everyday life with shooting
numerous events, from a local homicide to state championship
football games.
Sports are usually my assignments and are very easy for me to do.
The hardest part about shooting a sporting event is finding a wi-fi
to transmit photos before my deadline.
During this
program we will take a look at different images of sports
photography and then you will gain an in-depth view of what I look
for in a great sports photo and anticipating a shot. We will talk
about football, baseball, basketball, volleyball or any sport that
you like to discuss. We will also discuss equipment for the venue
and the sport you are shooting.
